About
Domaine Bonnigal Bodet, is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Amboise, and more precisely in Limeray. The estate has been handed down from father to son since 1927. Since 2015 the 4th generation has embodied by Jean Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet.
The estate's vineyard is made of a geological heritage of great richness, with an amazing diversity of terroir. The team works solely with local grape varieties, Chenin, Côt (Malbec), Sauvignon Blanc and Pineau d'Aunis. These varieties are planted on flinty clay and clay-limestone soils. - Importer Notes
Tasting Notes
The 85-year-old vines on clay and flint soils over Aquitaine limestone only yielded 25 hectoliters per hectare for the 2020 Chenin Huis Clos. Aged in 620-liter barrels for 12 months and for about five months in stainless steel and bottled in April this year, the wine shows a clear, refined and aromatic bouquet with cooler fruit and vegetal as well as almond aromas intertwined with notes of limestone. Full-bodied yet finessed and delicate on the palate, this is a silky textured, fresh yet also intense, rich and powerful, always elegant and refined Chenin with tight mineral and salty grip on the long yet slightly astringent finish. At this moment, it's not as fascinating as the 2019 was last year, but this is possibly due to the fact the wine was bottled only a few weeks ago. 14.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
