Overview

The 2013 Clarendon Hills Astralis is a renowned Shiraz from the McLaren Vale region, celebrated for its rich heritage and meticulous craftsmanship. This wine is a flagship product of Clarendon Hills, a winery established by Roman Bratasiuk in 1990. The Astralis vineyard is known for its low-yielding, dry-grown vines that produce intensely flavoured grapes.

The 2013 Astralis is made from handpicked grapes, fermented in open-top fermenters, and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. This method enhances the wine's complexity and depth, creating a powerful yet elegant profile. The vineyard's unique terroir, consisting of a mix of clay, ironstone, and gravelly soils, contributes to the wine's distinct character.

Critic Review

95 Points

Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate

Full-bodied, creamy and rich, the 2013 Astralis Syrah lacks a bit of precision on the nose, but the palate delivers stunning layers of lush blueberry fruit, made savory by the addition of coffee grounds and black olives. Long and plush on the finish, it's a tremendous effort for the vintage.
