About
Château Certan de May is a winery that's been around since the very early days of the Pomerol subregion. The Scottish de May family was gifted the estate way back in the 16th century by royal decree, and they wasted no time in establishing themselves as one of the premier wineries in the area. They started making wine in the 18th century and kept at it until 1925, when they passed the torch to the Barreau family.
Fast forward to today, and the winery is in the capable hands of Jean-Luc Barreau - a man who takes his role very seriously. He knows that he's responsible for carrying on the legacy of his forebearers, and he applies extreme care and attention to the vines and wine. He has been working with renowned consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet to advance the vinification process since 2013.
Croix de Certan is one of the jewels in the Château Certan de May crown. It's made from the younger vines on the estate, with an average age of 35 years. But don't let that fool you; these vines are producing some seriously good grapes. With the care and attention that Jean-Luc and his team put into every bottle, you can bet that Croix de Certan is a wine that's worth seeking out.
Tasting Notes
Deep opaque colour. Rich full flamboyant aromas of fresh coffee bean, plums and fig. In the palate, this is a smooth graceful style reflecting the velvety texture of high class Merlot and a touch of gentle freshness from the Cabernet-Franc. A beautiful example of the joys and plush fruit flavours of Pomerol. Drink now or cellar. - Importer Note
