About

Château La Grave Figeac is a winery located on sandy clay and gravel soils over limestone at the border of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. The winery was converted to organic farming in 2009 under the ownership of Laurent Clauzel, who also serves as the winemaker. The vineyards have an average age of 45 years, and all the harvesting is done by hand. The fermentations are carried out with wild yeasts, and no SO2 is added until later in the winemaking process.

M. Clauzel's dedication to organic agriculture has resulted in a significant improvement in the quality of the wines, with the 2014 vintage being particularly noteworthy for its elegance and finesse. The winery's location near famous neighbors such as Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and La Conseillante in Pomerol further underscores the high quality of the wines produced at Château La Grave Figeac.

Tasting Notes

The robe is a deep ruby hue. The nose offers elegant aromas of black raspberry, cassis, violets, a touch of leather, and loamy soil. The mid-weight palate has good concentration and lift, with ripe

black fruit character, and fine-grained tannins carrying over on a long, succulent, layered finish. This displays none of the roasted notes of the somewhat dry vintage and is deeply satisfying, classic St. Emilion. Delicious now, but can age for 7-10 ten years. - Importer Note
