About
A remote ancestor, Jacques Verdery, founded Château Grand Village in 1650. This vineyard is the birthplace of the Guinaudeau family of vignerons. The estate is situated in Mouillac, a part of the canton of Fronsac, and covers 50 hectares of land. The surface is divided between 20 hectares of vineyard positioned on the plateau and gentle slopes of Grand Village, and 30 hectares of woods and meadows.
Together Jacques and Sylvie took charge of the vineyard of Grand Village in 1980. Still cherishing sweet memories from that period, including the 1982 and 1990 vintages which are memorable testimonies of the great potential that exist in the clay-limestone terroir at Grand Village. For the last twenty years a new journey has been written for Grand Village. With Baptiste and Julie they embarked on a new adventure, taking a bold decision to work the vineyard and vinify the wines of Grand Village with the same approach and philosophy at Lafleur.
Château Grand Village quickly became a singular wine, a down to earth Bordeaux crafted with the means and in the spirit of a grand cru. Since then, considerable progress has been made in both the vineyard and cellar. - Importer Note
Tasting Notes
Just as it was from barrel, the 2018 Grand Village is rich and enveloping in feel. Inky red berry fruit, spice, licorice, mocha and dried flowers all meld together in this effortless, juicy Bordeaux Superieur from the Guinaudeau family. Cabernet Franc signatures are quite prominent in the wine's aromatic profile and structural feel. The 2018 is a jewel of a wine that could very well surprise somewhere down the line. I loved it.

Drink: 2024 - 2038
The 2018 Grand Village is a blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it comes galloping out of the glass with powerful notes of baked plums, mulberries and stewed black cherries, plus hints of tar, licorice, garrigue and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with bombastic black fruits and an exciting burst of freshness, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long and earthy.

Aromas of currants and blueberries with some crushed stones follow through to a full body, creamy and chewy tannins and impressive intensity at the finish. Give it two or three years of bottle age. Merlot and bouschet (cabernet franc). Try after 2022.
