Tasting Notes
American and French oak conspire in this wine. Around half are new. Fruit comes from around Heathcote. The standard bearer for WDC in some respects.
Strong scents of sandalwood, bourbon and coke, dark chocolate, ripe plum. Warm and toasty to taste, barrels first, booze and dark fruits second, mocha, whisky cream and liquorice finish. Yummo. Big, bold thick set and so very potent. It’s got the DNA of some port wines in style, depth, concentration and yes a kind of fresh rancio, dried fruit and nut character. The breathiness holds this a bit back for me, but I can see the big boy appeal.
