About

The Loire Valley is getting a wake-up call with the arrival of Domaine Belargus, a newcomer shaking up the wine scene with a revolutionary spirit. With 24 hectares of prime vineyards, including the highly regarded "Coteau des Treilles," "Clos des Ruchères," and "Les Quarts," this newcomer is making waves with its Grand Cru quality. Wine aficionado Ivan Massonnat is the mastermind behind Belargus, having acquired the iconic Jo Pithon's estate and consolidating it with other prime acquisitions in Anjou Noir.

This organic operation, led by region pioneers Jo Pithon and Guy Bossard, is at the forefront of biodynamic practices, striving to revitalise some of France's most prized vineyards. In the late 1990s, Jo Pithon resurrected Coteau des Treilles in Rochefort, a 2.72-hectare plot that was once abandoned due to its "geological chaos." Jo breathed new life into the grand cru and put it back on the map of the Loire's finest. Under the guidance of Ivan Massonnat, the pair created the first vintage in 2018, cementing their place as true wine revolutionaries.
