About
Cara Sucia is a project created by the Durigutti brothers, Hector and Pablo. Born and raised in the area of Rivadavia, East Mendoza, they have brought these wines to life as a homage to their origins.
The organic vineyards are over 80 years old, planted on an overhead trellising system, flood irrigated and sitting at 450 m.a.s.l, known to be some of the lowest altitude plantings within the Mendoza wine region.
Most varieties used in Cara Sucia have been ignored in the past, however currently going through a renaissance with the interest of making wines that are different, quirky, fresh and bringing a whole new face to the Argentine wine scene.
One of the varieties that made the calling for us was the Cereza grape… a pink skinned berry believed to be a hybrid of Moscatel of Alexandria and Pais, producing a savoury light red that has everything we wanted to see from Argentina.
Cara Sucia translates to ‘Dirty Face’ and the truck on the label is the image of the mechanical work horse the brothers grew up with on their family farm in Rivadavia, it even has a name ‘Federal 1947’. Now the old truck is in the process of restoration and has relocated to the Las Compuertas estate in Lujan de Cuyo, where the Durigutti’s have another great project, producing the better known, classic varieties of Mendoza. - Importer Note
