About
Egon Müller is widely recognized as one of the greatest estates in Germany, renowned for its exceptional Rieslings. The Müller family has owned the estate since 1797, and their wines, sourced primarily from the illustrious Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, enjoy a stellar reputation worldwide. Scharzhofberg, often regarded as the Grand Cru of the Mosel, boasts steep slopes, ranging from 30% to 60% gradient, and elevations between 180 and 280 metres. Planted in grey Devonian slate soils, this vineyard, located in Wiltingen, offers an ideal terroir for Riesling cultivation. Egon Müller maximises the potential of their vineyard holdings, utilising fruit from two key parcels: 8.3 hectares of Scharzhof and 4 hectares of Le Gallais, which includes the Kupp and Braune Kupp single vineyards. Notably, the estate also owns a rare parcel of ungrafted vines in Scharzhofberg planted in the 19th century.
Egon Müller's expertise shines through in their winemaking, crafting wines that epitomise the unique terroir of their vineyards. Their portfolio encompasses a range of styles, from off-dry to sweet, including Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Auslese Goldkapsel, and occasionally Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese, and Eiswein. These wines, renowned for their clarity, precision, and balance, are coveted for their ability to age gracefully over decades. In essence, Egon Müller's wines are revered as benchmarks of quality, capturing the essence of Mosel Riesling with unmatched finesse.
