About

Alkina is a new story on an old place. It is a journey through ancient stones and soils, organic and biodynamic viticulture, small scale winemaking and the creation of unique micro-terroir wines, all grown and made on an estate in Greenock, amongst the Western Barossa ranges.

- Founded in 2015 and conceived, developed and managed by South Australian, Amelia Nolan and owned by Argentine vintner, Alejandro Bulgheroni.

- The project was established on a 60 hectare farm with 43 planted to vine, which are mainly Grenache followed by Shiraz, Mataro and Semillon.

-  It is the first Australian winery to undertake detailed micro-terroir study with Chilean terroir specialist, Pedro Parra. One of the most in-depth studies of its kind in Australia.

-  It is also the only current Australian project assisted by world renowned Italian winemaker, Alberto Antonini.

- Concrete tulips and eggs are preferred for wild ferments and maturation, as well as Georgian qvevri and Italian amphorae, rather than the more traditional use of barrels.

- ALKINA’ is an Indigenous Australian girl’s name meaning ‘Moon’ or ‘Moonlight’. The name embodies respect for the land and the many forces of nature that bring life, energy and authenticity to these wines. - Distributor Note

Tasting Notes

This is the perfect entree into the wonderful world of Alkina. This is a Greenock producer that you really want to become familiar with.

This is juicy, friendly, dry and serious at once. It’s all flowers, berries and earth with lots of juice and a good amount of tension. Red cherries and cranberries with juniper berries and purple flowers. It’s fresh. It’s pure. It’s energetic. And yet it’s structural. I like this a good deal.
