A vibrant natural wine from Sicily. This Frappato displays its terroir's lively character, with scents of red berries and wildflowers and a fresh, crisp finish.

Origins

Lamoresca is located in the southernmost region of Catania province, between Etna and Gela on the southern coast, at a height of around 450 metres. The vineyard has a distinctive terroir, consisting of highly compacted sandstone soils supplemented with calcium and iron-rich clay. The old vines, which include Nero d'Avola, Grenache, and Nerocapitano (Frappato) for reds and the rare Vermentino Corso for whites, are grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals. The wines ferment naturally without temperature control, and no sulphur is added at any point.

With a yearly production of approximately 15,000 bottles, the 2022 Lamoresca Nerocapitano is notable for its vivid and energetic character. The grapes go through two weeks of skin fermentation before being crushed and matured in concrete vats for eight months. This natural technique produces a wine that perfectly embodies the essence and authenticity of Sicilian Frappato.

Cork Tasting Notes

The 2022 Lamoresca Nerocapitano begins with a lively scent of red berries, pomegranate, and wildflowers, with faint traces of Mediterranean herbs. It is a light-bodied, delicious wine that is both refreshing and elegant. It is best consumed young and gently chilled, particularly during the warmer months. The wine's bright fruit flavours, paired with its earthy overtones, making it a flexible option for a number of culinary pairings.

Pomegranate syrup, raspberry, rosehip, new leather and curry leaf. It’s fresh and bright, but packs plenty of flavour into its light frame, a cranberry crunch to acidity, also a little steely, a slurry of fine silty tannin, with a cherry juice/savoury finish of excellent length. What a delight this is. Such character and refreshment. So good!
