Overview

Fèlsina, founded in 1966 in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, has become one of Italy’s iconic wine estates. Located in the southern part of Chianti Classico near the town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, the winery was established by Domenico Poggiali, who sought to revitalise the land and bring a renewed focus to Sangiovese, Tuscany’s signature grape. Fèlsina has remained a family-run estate and is currently managed by Domenico’s son-in-law, Giovanni Poggiali.

Under the direction of celebrated winemaker Giuseppe Mazzocolin, Fèlsina embraced innovative yet traditional practices, creating wines that exemplify the depth and aging potential of Sangiovese. Fèlsina’s flagship wines, such as Fontalloro and Rancia, are crafted from 100% Sangiovese, showcasing purity, structure, and finesse. The estate's sustainable vineyard practices and dedication to expressing the terroir of Chianti Classico have cemented Fèlsina’s reputation for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that remain true to Tuscan tradition.

Fèlsina’s Vin Santo embodies the centuries-old winemaking tradition of Tuscany, where vin santo has been prized for its ability to encapsulate the essence of the harvest. Produced from carefully selected Trebbiano, Malvasia and Sangiovese grapes, which are hand-harvested and air-dried to intensify their flavours, this Vin Santo captures the dedication and artistry of Fèlsina’s winemaking team. Known for their commitment to organic practices and sustainable viticulture, Fèlsina ensures that every bottle reflects the authenticity and heritage of the Chianti Classico region.

The meticulous vinification process involves aging in traditional small “caratelli” barrels for seven years, allowing the wine to develop its signature caramel and dried fruit notes while softening into a luxurious, velvety texture. This patient ageing process lends Fèlsina’s Vin Santo a remarkable depth and balanced sweetness that is never cloying, with a bright acidity that keeps each sip lively and refined.

Dried figs, mint, licorice, crème brulée, herbs and candied orange peel soar from the glass in Fèlsina 2006 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico. Aromatically expressive and a bit richer than is often the case, the 2006 offers gorgeous depth, with plenty of acidity to back things up.
