Overview
Hoddles Creek Estate, located in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, was established in 1997 by the D’Anna family, who had a long history in agriculture and winemaking. From the outset, the family committed to producing high-quality, cool-climate wines that reflect the Yarra Valley’s terroir. Situated at an elevation of 220 metres, the estate’s vineyards benefit from a cooler microclimate, which allows for extended ripening and greater complexity in the grapes.
Hoddles Creek specialises in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, and the winery has gained a strong reputation for crafting elegant, balanced wines that offer excellent value. The D’Anna family employs sustainable vineyard practices, minimal intervention in winemaking, and a focus on purity and site expression. Today, Hoddles Creek Estate is celebrated for its refined, terroir-driven wines and its dedication to quality, making it a standout in the Yarra Valley and one of Australia’s most respected family-owned wineries.
The 2015 growing season provided optimal conditions, producing smaller berries that resulted in concentrated flavours and a well-integrated structure. Each grape for this wine is hand-harvested and carefully sorted, undergoing minimal intervention in the winery to preserve the purity of the fruit. A portion of whole-bunch fermentation enhances aromatic complexity, while ageing in French oak adds delicate spice and texture without overshadowing the vineyard’s intrinsic qualities. The result is a layered, sophisticated Pinot Noir that balances Yarra Valley’s hallmark freshness with the earthy complexity typical of fine, age-worthy Pinot.

The 2015 Estate Pinot Noir was a terrific wine for me, or right in my wheelhouse, as they like to say.
The minute you put your nose to the glass you’re transported to the world of ‘fine wine’. This has clarity, precision and fairly glides through the palate. Red cherry, raspberry, dried roses, fine spicy biscuitty oak, clean earthiness, and almost a liquorice root succulence too, but throughout its signature is restraint and subdued power. Ultra-fine tannin shapes the wine surely like the firm stroke of an emery board, the acidity so pure and clean, and the finish long, crisply ironed and perfumed. Australian Pinot Noir eh? “You’ve come a long way baby.”
